Album Info:The Nebraska Central Railroad Co. is a subsidiary of Rio Grande Pacific Corp. of Texas. Previous Union Pacific rail, UP started to spin off minor and less lucrative secondary lines in Nebraska in 1993 when Rio Grande Pacific leased 248 miles of the branches north out of Columbus to Norfolk, Albion and Spalding and the branch from Grand Island to Ord plus the east-west going branch from Grand Island over Stromsburg and David City to Brainard (named the "High Line" by UP). The new company Nebraska Centrals headquarter is in Columbus and its shop in Grand Island in an ex UP facility. In 1996 NCRC acquired 7.5 miles of track at Norfolk and in year 2000 further 18 miles track from BNSF going from Central City to Palmer. NCRC chose a bright red as base color for their locomotives with white nose stripes and yellow trim. The red is for the Husker football team and the yellow and white for the corn fields. First locomotives in 1993 were four GP40s rebuilt as GP38Ms and numbered 4200-4203. Today NCRC is a vital agricultural and industrial commodity hauler for the area of mid-east Nebraska. Corn elevators are at all major stations and Green Plains ethanol plants at Ord and Central City, a Cargill ethanol plant at Albion and Preferred Sands sand mining facility at Genua, are all essential customers.
