CP 5913 |
Description: |
The SD40-2's are spanking new in this shot, and the red really stands out against the haze on this train returning to Toronto after swapping cars at Hamilton. Canadian roads still used flags and class lights during this period, a nice touch that really added to any photo. |

Eastbound and Alcos |
Description: |
This eastbound had an SD 40 leading, but three 6 axle MLWs in the consist for its 106 cars. Eastern Canada was Alco paradise in this time, long after the US class 1s had shed them from their rosters. Note the white flags, denoting an extra train. All CP freights ran as extras, and all flew the correct flags. This was another practice that was a lost art in the US. |

500 rolls east |
Description: |
CP instituted train 500 as a through train between SOO in Chicago and Montqeal. It was notable for keeping the SOO power all the way through, and thus was easy tl spot. We see it rolling through Dorval, almost to the end of the trip. |

White flags |
Description: |
This early morning eastbound has white flags flying, indicating and extra train as it rolls out of the sun with 88 cars behind three big Ms. It was Canadian Pacific practice to run freights as extras, even if they had a schedule. As such, they flew white flags, a practice that had largely ended in the US. |
