Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #9785 and three other F-Class units whose numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD and rated at 1,500 horsepower each; #9785 was built in February of 1951. They have just departed Enola Yard with a mixed-cargo freight train on their way to Altoona and points West. |

Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, during November of 1960. Shown here (L to R) are PRR engines #9785, #9876-B, and #9652. All were built by EMD and are rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #9785 is an EF-15A built in 1951. #9876-B is an EF-15A built in 1952. #9652 is an EH-15 built in 1950. They are running light and are about to pass under the State Route 53 Bridge just West of Gallitzin, which is visible in the distance. ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.) |

Gallitzin. Here is an original photo that I took of a Pennsylvania Railroad train in Gallitzin, Pennsylvania, on 13 September 1964. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #9785, #9788, #7069, and #8843. #9785 and #9788 are EF-15A's built by EMD in 1951 and rated at 1,500 horsepower each. #7069 is an EFS-17M built by EMD in 1956 and rated at 1,750 horsepower. #8843 is an AS-16MS built by the American Locomotive Company in 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. They are emerging from the eastern portal of the New Portage Tunnel with a 108-car coal train on their way down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve to Altoona and points East. The N-8 caboose is #478171. |
