Description:
In this undated photo from the early 1960’s, Texas & Pacific E8A 30 and an unidentified F7B were parked on a ready track at New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. At this time, the MP-TP had recently introduced an all-blue paint scheme and a unified numbering system. The 30 was originally T&P 2010, the first of eight T&P E8A units; while the F7B was one of four such T&P units (881B-884B) equipped with steam generators and high-speed (77 MPH) gearing. These locomotives had arrived here in the morning on the
LOUISIANA EAGLE
, the overnight train from Fort Worth, and would be returning west that evening. F7’s were frequently used on this train until they were replaced by GP7’s. (date of photo unknown)
