A massive 4-6-2 Pacific delivered by Alco-Schenectady in November of 1930 to the Omaha Road sits idle in the Proviso Yards in Chicago, IL. This was the last one of only 3 in the last class of Pacifics for the CMO and according to one on-line source, these were the heaviest Pacifics to be built for any railroad. Specs - serial #68518, E-3 class, massive 75" drivers, impressive 260 psi boiler pressure, 25x28" cylinders, engine weight of 347,000 lb and 51,567 lb tractive effort. Max Miller photo |
