Built in 1856 as part of a massive shops area for the Chicago, Burlington & Quincy, the building was used heavily in the steam era and somewhat in the diesel era but fell on hard times. It took Walter Payton's investment group to rehabilitate and restore the structure to new purposes. |

The stone side is simplistic but impressive all in one. According to an Aurora historic website, the roundhouse was actually started in mid-1855 but finished in 1856, making it the oldest stone roundhouse in America. It was part of a 60 acre comples of shops and structures but this being the only one remaining. |
