John Eagan General This is actually in Crown Point taken from Whitcomb Avenue. That is US Route 30 in the distance. Tom, Bob Zwiers and I were all out there on this day; the end was at hand for the EL and we wanted to catch as much of it as we could before Conrail! 9/14/2010 7:58:44 AM
Chris Balducci General That infrastructure looked like it could handle 100 trains a day! In how many places was the r-o-w that wide? God bless. 12/14/2011 5:34:38 PM
Chris Balducci General Was there an overpass for Whitcomb Street here? According to Google Maps, the street is cut by the Erie Lackawanna Trail. God bless. 12/29/2011 5:13:02 PM
Rick Larson General Not sure how long of a stretch the ROW was that wide, but I always heard that the reason for it being so wide is so there would be no interruption in service if there was a derailment. Also yes there was a bridge for Whitcomb St, there's an old pic of it here: http://www.oocities.org/eriewalt/91stbridge.jpg 3/5/2012 11:31:45 AM
