This is actually in Crown Point taken from Whitcomb Avenue. That is US Route 30 in the distance. Tom, Bob Zwiers and I were all out there on this day; the end was at hand for the EL and we wanted to catch as much of it as we could before Conrail!

Was there an overpass for Whitcomb Street here? According to Google Maps, the street is cut by the Erie Lackawanna Trail. God bless.

Not sure how long of a stretch the ROW was that wide, but I always heard that the reason for it being so wide is so there would be no interruption in service if there was a derailment. Also yes there was a bridge for Whitcomb St, there's an old pic of it here: http://www.oocities.org/eriewalt/91stbridge.jpg
