Bread and Cheese for lunch  Contributor's Pick!
A westbound Port Jefferson train crosses the steel bridge at Bread and Cheese Hollow Rd, so named for the food carried by John Smith on his day long ride to establish the town of Smithtown in the 1600s. Legend is the local Native Americans would grant him all the land he could ride around on a bull in a days time. The road below, a trail in those days, was part of his route. Today there are almost no Natives in the area any more, but the name persists. Id bet most LIRR riders are unaware of the history of the road under the bridge.
