PRR 2290, EF-25, 1965
Slope to Works. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 6 June 1965. Shown here (L to R) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #2290, #2264, and two more units whose road numbers are not recorded. All were built by GM-EMD. #2290 and #2264 are EF-25's rated at 2,500 horsepower each. #2290 was constructed in June of 1964, while #2264 was built in May of the same year. They're pulling a westbound merchandise train past WORKS Tower. What's notable, here, is that this train is on one of the "passenger" tracks and will not stop in Altoona to change crews. In 1965, this was the exception ~ nowadays, it is the norm. (#34 of 44)
