Station. Here is the first of two original photos that I took near the Pennsylvania Railroad's Passenger Station in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on the afternoon of 11 December 1965. Shown here (R to L) are PRR engines #2424, a "U Boat" whose road number is not recorded, #2243, and #2286. #2424 is an AF-25 built by the American Locomotive Company in 1965 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. #2243 is an EF-22 built by EMD in 1963 and rated at 2,250 horsepower. #2286 is an EF-25 built by EMD in 1964 and rated at 2,500 horsepower. They are about to pass under the 12th Street Bridge with a long string of brand-new PRR covered hopper cars. The train two tracks over is the mail/express train headed by PRR engine #5900; it is stopped for a crew change. The Passenger Station is visible on the far right, adjacent to the parking lots filled with cars belonging to merry Christmas shoppers. |
