Recently-repainted Gulf Mobile & Ohio S1 664 was one of four such units (661-664) bought by the railroad in 1940. All four were retired in 1972, just before the GM&O-ICG merger, and traded in to EMD on the railroad's last new locomotives, GP38-2's 751-754. The GM&O also inherited 15 newer S1's (10-24) when it acquired the Alton, and these survived into the ICG era; but all were retired within 2-3 years. |
