One thing I always liked about the various patch paint jobs these engines got is that in many cases, since they were not renumbered, the numbers were not changed. Thus we have the road number in its original typeface from whoever painted it last. I think Amtrak did the numbers when they painted them-more likely relettered, since they stayed black, except for a few circus units-but CR and NJT kept the numbers. NJT 4883 even had a keystone under each headlight into the 80's, and kept its same numbers. Jersey railfan Walt Grosselfinger had a set of magnetic letters made up so he could put "Pennsylvania" on a couple of G's, and along with the orignal numbers, the looked pretty authentic.
