Long before an SD40 loco wore the MILW #3007, this Burnham, Wms & Co 4-4-2 Atlantic type steam locomotive wore the number. Built in November of 1898 as MILW #874, the loco was renumbered several times - MILW 407 in 1899, MILW 907 in 1901, MILW 3007 in 1912 and evenutally after this photo to MILW 23 in 1938. Original specs - serial #16318, 78" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, Vauclain compoumd with 22x26" & 13x26" cylinders, engine weight of 140,700 lb, modest tractive effort of 14,196 lb.
