WATC Ivy City Yard, #4 of 5, c. 1953
Here is the fourth of five successive original photos by Douglas C. Jones that were taken at the Ivy City Yard in Washington, D.C., c. 1953. Prominent here is Pennsylvania Railroad Wire Maintenance Car #489503, cruising down the PRR's southbound mainline track toward Washington. Beyond it are two E-8A passenger diesels representing two different railroads, awaiting their next assignments. Partially visible at the far left is the soon-to-be-obsolete Ivy City Coaling Tipple.
