Areotrain
Rock Island Aero Train Number 3 sits idle but freshly repainted. This trainset is made up of an LWT12 and its 2 coaches, too bad something with such poor ride could have been housed in such a strikingly designed shell.

Great picture of a short-lived train. I rode the Rock Island Aero Train in late May 1957 from LaSalle, Illinois to Chicago on the beginning of s senior class trip which would use PRR to spend about 10 days in New York City and Washington, DC. The next time I saw the unit it was sitting in Englewood yards south of Chicago as I travelled from Cleveland to Chicago on NYC and Chicago to LaSalle on Rock Island during 50,000 miles of railroad courtship when I was in the Coast Guard. Years later a bought an N scale model railroad from a man from Elmhurst. He worked at EMD and had designed the brake system for the Aero train. When I mentioned the Aero train to Rock Island staff during trips between LaSalle and Chicago they often referred to it as the "30 & 1" train. 30 days on the road and 1 day in the shop to replace the brakes.
