PRR 1000, "Aerotrain," #2 of 2, 1955
Dziobko. Here is the second of two successive images of photos by John Dziobko, Jr., that were taken from the 7th Street Bridge in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 18 July 1955. Shown here is the Pennsylvania Railroad's "Aerotrain," built by General Motors during July of 1955 and withdrawn from service in November of 1956. It's on its daily sojourn from New York City to Pittsburgh and back. It will soon stop at the Altoona Passenger Station for crew changes, as well as to discharge and receive passengers. Visible in the center are the PRR's 12th Street Car Shops; at the right are the REX and "perishables" team tracks. William E. Burket Collection.
