DRGW 2-8-8-2 #3411 - Denver & Rio Grande Western         
Like a sleeping giant, Denver & Rio Grande Western 2-8-8-2 #3411 was photographed sitting quietly in the Salida, CO, yard. Built by ALCo-Schenectady in December of 1912 as DRG #1071, it was renumbered DRGW #3411 after the re-organization of DRGW. . It lasted in service until it met the scrapper's torch in 1946. Original specs - 57" drivers, 200 psi boiler pressure, 26x40" high pressure cylinders, 32x57" low pressure cylinders, engine wt of 458,000 lb, and impressive tractive effort of 95,000 lb. The photo is from the Tom Klinger collection. No date or location was given for the photo so approximates were used.
