MP Yards
Here if you look off in the distance you can see the then new highway overpass. In the foreground there are some former Rock Island units, the Rock had been gone 4 years by the time of this photo, and the MP 2 years. The track they are sitting on by the fuel tanks and sanding towers no longer exist, as most of the tracks from this era. The Mo-Pac's U23B's had the bad luck of a high percentage involved in wrecks for the number of locos on the system. A number of these units in turn needed cab replacment, and since MoPac had EMD parts readily on hand, the GE units were fitted with the boxier EMD-style crew cabs. Hybrid units, like #4528(now in it's third numbering), would have a look distinct to the MoPac.

Jeff Carlson General Also cool to see that coupled up to RI's #4710, another wreck rebuild with a one of a kind paint job. See http://www.rockisl.com/cgi-bin/display.asp?f=1&e=1&n=185 10/11/2008 9:07:43 PM
Tom Beckett General Looks like that Rock unit ahead of the hybrid U23 also had a problem at some point. Note the red/yellow long hood, and "New Rock" cab. 10/28/2018 2:45:32 AM
