Across the grain of the Allegheny Mountains, the Blue Juniata has carved a spectacular hundred-mile thoroughfare for east-west traffic. Lewistown Narrows, shown here, was the scene of a dramatic one-man train robbery in 1909, when a masked bandit stopped and looted the Pittsburgh & Northern Express. Ironically, he passed up half a million dollars in low-denomination bank notes for a heavy sack containing sixty-five-dollars' worth of Lincoln pennies!"

Both are BP-60's built by the Baldwin Locomotive Works as BP-60 passenger engines rated at 3,000 horsepower each, but later regeared and reclassified as 2,250 horsepower BH-50's for freight and helper service only. #5827 was built in October of 1948 and retired in September of 1962 after just 14 years of revenue service. They're rockin' 'n' rollin' past LEWIS Tower with an eastbound passenger train.
