The CANX SW1200RS #1236 is a road-switcher locomotive currently owned by Canac (CANX), a company that specializes in railway switching and consulting services. This locomotive was originally built for Canadian National (CN) as part of their extensive fleet of GMD SW1200RS units. It was manufactured by General Motors Diesel (GMD) in London, Ontario, Canada. The SW1200RS production for Canadian railroads occurred between September 1955 and June 1964. Following retirement from CN's primary fleet, the locomotive was acquired by Canac, a former CN subsidiary (later sold to Savage Companies). Specs - powered by an EMD 12-567C V12 diesel engine, produces 1,200 hp (890 kW), equipped with Flexicoil B-B trucks, which provided better suspension for higher-speed road service (up to 65 mph) compared to standard yard switcher trucks, and unlike standard switchers, the RS version featured large front and rear numberboard housings, multiple-unit (MU) capability, and a larger fuel tank (775 gallons) to support longer trips beyond yard limits.
