Yard shanty, Elk Run Jct

  Contributor's Pick!

This structure was built across the tracks from the scalehouse/yard office in Elk Run Junction, WV, featuring standard ship-lap siding. The front is open but I don't remember if it had any kind of framing on the front. As best I recall, the rear of this building was blank but it may have had a small window. There are a couple of tracks behind this building, but the tracks had not been used in quite some time, apparently. I love that stove at the front! This image came from an old Kodak 126 print. As the color, dyes, etc., had faded, I used computer software to make the gray as close as I could remember. C&O used an almost battleship gray color for a lot of buildings. Also, I had never noticed the conduit running along the left edge of the wall. I don't recall what it was used for, though. This view looks east and was taken in the afternoon, apparently, from the shadow on the wall. This would be a very easy building to model!
