PRR 8663, AS-18AM, 1965

Derailment. Here is an original photo that I took at the site of a derailment in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 21 May 1965. Shown here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #8663, an AS-18AM built by the American Locomotive Company in January of 1958 and rated at 1,800 horsepower. It's coupled to the "western" work train and steam-powered crane that are working on the derailed cars and locomotives of the eastbound freight train on the next track over.
