Going solo |
Description: |
KL 1 was normally a short train, and often got a single unit, not common on this line, which had a couple of stiff grades on the west end. A single GATX unit does the honors today as it rolls along the easy part of the route, in the Susquehanna valley near Campville. |

Scenic ride north |
Description: |
Train 751 has come through Belden tunnel and is now on the north side of the mountain, rolling through Nineveh, where the old Penn Division left the main. There is still a siding here, the south end at Nineven Jct is now CPF 590. This train is meeting southbound 556 here. The crew will enjoy the scenery as it heads for the north end of the siding at Afton-CPF 587 |

Not as bad as it looks |
Description: |
The 751 train starts up Belden hill from Bevier St, the rdar of the train still in the yard. It looks like a hellacious climb-and it is at times-but here, because the new connection to the NYSW, seen below, slopes down, the grade looks worse than it really is. It still aint easy!! |

Phosphate train |
Description: |
One of the sporadic moves to run on the D&H was a phosphate train that originated in Floridas Bone Valley on CSX. It was usually symbolled 751, and had run through CSX power. This time, its a pair of Seaboard System SD 40-2s, which we see behind a pair of GATX lease units at the north end of Dyes Siding, which was on the grade about a mile south of Belden Tunnel. It has since been removed, thought the signal mast remains. |

Seldom seen signal |
Description: |
Actually, I used to see it all the time. Signal 216-2, the distant signal for CP Johnson, was easy to see, just hard to photograph. You could see it from the NY 201 overpass to the west, but stopping there to take a picture was out of the question due to traffic. This was a walk in from the old Broad St crossing. I wish I had done it a little more often. The offset lights were a peculiarity of northeastern railroading not seen much in other parts of the country. HAN 1X passes on its way to Buffalo. |
