Here is a duplicate 35mm color slide of a photo by Fred Kern that was taken just East of the Brick Yard Crossing in Altoona, Pennsylvania, on 23 July 1955. Shown here (R to L) are Pennsylvania Railroad engines #5860 and two more E-7's whose numbers are not recorded. All are EP-20's built by GM-EMD and rated at 2,000 horsepower each. #5860 was built in February of 1948. In this context, this A-B-A set of locomotives is pulling Train #22 down the Allegheny Mountains via the Horseshoe Curve and will soon stop at the Altoona Passenger Station on their way to Harrisburg and points East. ("Tchowee"; #12 of 29) |
