PRR 8850, AS-16MS, 1960
Title:  PRR 8850, AS-16MS, 1960
Description:  4th Street. Here is an original photo that I took in Altoona, Pennsylvania, in November of 1960. Shown here is PRR engine #8850, an AS-16MS built by the American Locomotive Company in December of 1951 and rated at 1,600 horsepower. Its crew is servicing to a mixed-cargo freight train that has just passed under the 4th Street Footbridge into the Eastbound Receiving Yard. Visible on the right are the seldom-used livestock pens, right next to the Yard Crew Shack and SOUTH Tower (not shown). The floodlight tower depicted at the left once illuminated the 1939 World's Fair in New York! ("Red Shift" slide converted to Black & White.)
