CNW GP50 #5055 - Chicago & North Western
Title:  CNW GP50 #5055 - Chicago & North Western
Description:  The GP50 was the first mass-produced four-axle locomotive by EMD to use microprocessor control systems, designed to replace the GP40-2. These units were notable for their nose-mounted bells and high-horsepower (3,500 hp) 16-cylinder engines and were later equipped with dual ATC-CCS systems, allowing it to lead trains on both C&NW and Union Pacific (UP) main lines. The C&NW GP50 fleet, including unit 5055, was reportedly a "constant maintenance headache" from the time of their delivery in 1980. Due to these maintenance issues, the C&NW frequently stored these units. After being absorbed into the UP roster, it was renumbered UP 5534. No photographer was listed for the photo which is now in my rr collection.
