Title:  UP 4014
Description:  Big Boy 4014 thunders through Emory, Utah with a manifest freight. 4014 had been on the Union Pacific roster for around a year at the time of this 1942 image, taken by a UP company photographer. 4014 would pull its last regular-service freight train on July 21, 1959, arriving at Cheyenne at 1:50 AM with 88 loads and 9 empties. After its final run, the 4014 would be donated to the Railway & Locomotive Historical Society in Pomona, California, and would be moved there in the following years. In the mid 2010s, UP looked to restore one of the 8 remaining Big Boys to excursion service, and so the 4014 was taken out of display, moved to Cheyenne, and refurbished, returning to steam in 2019, just in time for the 150th anniversary of the completion of the Transcontinental Railroad. Description:  Extra 4014 West slogs up Sherman Hill near Granite Canon. The 4021 is the point helper for this train, and is fresh out of the shops. 4021 will doublehead the train along with 4014 (second engine) for the climb up the grade. Description:  UP 4014 leads a westbound extra into the yard at Green River. Green River was on the western end of the Big Boys territory. Rolling out of Town
Title:  Rolling out of Town
Description:  UP 4014 thunders past a switch as it departs the yard in Laramie in late 1956. 4014 is nearing the end of its service life, its first one, that is. In 2013, UP purchased the massive locomotive from the RailGiants Museum in Pomona, California. Over the next 6 years, workers brought 4014 back to life in UPs Cheyenne backshops. 4014 returned to service in May of 2019 to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Transcontinental Railroad. After a tour of UP rails that year, 4014 returned to Cheyenne, just as the COVID-19 pandemic struck America. 4014 stayed in Cheyenne during the pandemic, but a new trip was planned for 2022.

Description:  Two 4000s are running tender first, lugging 82 cars back to Speer after a broken knuckle on the lead car.
